LifeShield™
What is LifeShield™?LifeShield™ is a seven layer system comprised of both programmatic and human oversight of all materials posted or taking place on Kuzoa. LifeShield™ is able to detect illegal or dangerous activities and then takes predetermined actions based on a rule set that we have developed. What are the seven layers?Policies - Like other websites, we have a strict user agreement that do not allow objectionable materials or behaviors on Kuzoa. While policies may not stop anything from happening, it does give us the tools for suspending or removing a user if they engage in undesirable behavior. Safety Guidelines - On our help menu, you can find a page that describes ways to stay safe online. Things like not disclosing your real name and address are important to maintaining online safety. Check out our safety guidelines to learn more. Community Policing - On every user page, creation, and blog entry, there is a link where users can flag that item. Flagged items are reviewed by our staff and action is taken if the item violates any of our safety or content policies. Filtering - To create an environment where anyone can feel comfortable, we have language filtering enabled by default. This means that the typical user will not encounter profanity and other objectionable language. This filter is set per user and can be disabled by any user 13 or over, but for users under 13 and for people who are not logged in, the language filter is enabled. Peer Guide Network - Kuzoa has created a sub-community of peer guides - the first of its kind in the social networking world. These are Kuzoa users (not staff) who have signed up to help people in their own age and gender group with any problems they encounter. They are there to provide first level customer support and to show users how to maximize their Kuzoa experience. The peer guides are assigned a small group of people to help and watch over and are also responsible for looking at their pages, embedded content, and posts to make sure they are in compliance with our policies. Peer guides do not have access to any personal information of their peer group and are supervised by guide coordinators that have been background checked and have direct staff contacts to handle specific circumstances when necessary. Content Approvals - When our users upload new creations (photos, videos, digital artwork, music, writings, etc.), their creation is only visible to people who have listed them as a friend. The new creation is added to a queue where any of our peer guides can access them and either approve or deny them. So, no user uploaded content that violates our policies will ever be seen by anyone unless they have the author of the creation listed as a friend. Because we have such a large network of peer guides, the approval cycle for uploaded creations is very short (typically a matter of minutes). Content Scanning - Lastly, LifeShield™ has a patent-pending software component that scans all text-based user content and scores our users for risk levels in certain areas. For example, if someone types things like "are your parents home" in combination with things like "send my a pic of yourself", that person's risk score for sexual predation will increase. And, after a person's score hits a predetermined level for each risk area, certain actions are taken. Using this revolutionary new system, we are able to detect risky behaviors in several areas including sexual predation, suicide, criminal activity, drug abuse, alcoholism, etc.
What actions do you take?Actions taken by LifeShield™ vary greatly depending on the risk area and the person's risk score. Possible actions include adding the person to a watch list, displaying helpful resources to them in place of regular advertising, asking their peer guide to check in with them more regularly, assigning them to a staff member to monitor, researching past communications to determine if there is in fact a high risk, suspending the user, and recommending the user for law enforcement or parental referral if appropriate (especially if criminal activity is imminent or the safety of an individual is at stake). This ability raises the bar for user safety and makes Kuzoa the first and only socially responsible social network. What about privacy? At Kuzoa, we are just as concerned about user privacy as we are user safety. We have a fairly thorough privacy policy that protects our users. In general, we do not give out any personally identifiable information about our users except when required to prevent or report a crime, or to keep a person safe from harm. At no time to volunteers (peer guides) have access to anyone's email address or any other personal information. Only Kuzoa staff can access that information and only when necessary. Because LifeShield™ scans text via software, human eyes do not need to review personal blog entries or other text marked as private. These items are then only reviewed when a situation occurs when we believe that our policies have been violated, criminal activity is involved, or a person's safety is at stake. |
